fuckyeahfamousblackgirls:

So yall know I’m going to keep 100…I made a Twitter for Fuckyeahfamousblackgirls as you know, I follow about 200 people. I search up certain celebrities: news, good, uplifting comments by people of them. So of course as you know, ignorant shit is retweeted on your timeline probably daily.

The dark skin-fucking-light skin bullshit was retweeted on my timeline a few times. And it was all fucking disgusting. I searched “dark skin” in the search and while I did see like four really cute, sensible and positive messages which really made me smile, this was the majority in a 40 minute span of tweets for the word “dark skin” were still just appalling. And most of the tweets were praising dark-skinned guys and downing dark-skinned women: everything from dark-skinned women have no right wearing red lipstick and pink lipsticks, blonde hair, certain colors of clothing to attractive dark skinned women being a rarity, like 1 out of a million. This shit has to stop!

I don’t know what it’s like to be a dark skinned woman, so I don’t know if the internet exaggerates how you’re ridiculed and treated in your every day life, but what I see on the internet every day from my own people makes me wonder where we are headed.

To every dark skinned person (not just females) I’m apologizing as an African American to you for your beauty being misunderstood, for your existence being made into a joke because of mind control placed upon the African American community. It hurts me because I’m Black. I see you hurting and I hurt. I see the self-hatred and I hurt. I think you’re BEAUTIFUL, REGAL and I see my ancestors when I see you so it’s something that fucks with me. The division of us really looks pathetic. As you’ve seen, we’ve been on a serious dark-skin spam because we’re so fucking sick and tired of people still feeding into this mindless, cow shit.

You know what bothers me most? I’ve noticed that about 80 percent of the tweets are by dark skinned people themselves. Are we suffering that severely from self-hatred? Like these people are making these delusional tweets as if they are light-skinned and as if making fun of other dark-skinned people makes them one of the “light skinned” people.

My mission for all of you is, whether your light, brown or dark as midnight, if you follow people on Twitter who degrade dark-skinned people, don’t laugh it off and constantly take it. Don’t encourage it. Unfollow them.

You listen to a Lil Wayne track or another rapper’s song and he’s clowning on dark-skinned women…Recycle bin that bullshit. We need to take a stand against this. We’ve been tolerate with this behavior for so fucking long and it’s about to be 2012.

Do you know that the retweets of these were typically by dark-skinned females? Do better babies. Please make sure you tell your nieces, cousins and daughters that they are beautiful because I’d hate for them to be the assholes in the photoset and bullying other dark-skinned black people.

It’s been ingrained in black American culture that light and bright = right and darker skin tones are ‘bad’. It’s showcased in so many media research studies I can’t even begin to name them all. Hit up Google Scholar and type in something like “dark skin, negative connotation” or something like that. When I was researching for my Disney paper, I found a study that said little black girls didn’t believe a dark skinned girl could be a ‘princess’. So much horrible, self-internalized hatred. Fucking paper bag test and ‘field n****s vs. house n****s’. Stuff that the overarching white kyriarchy has told us about ourselves and has got us believing it. It’s ridiculous. It’s appalling. It needs to stop.

Beauty doesn’t look like ONE thing. Beauty can be found anywhere, anytime, and in anything or anyone. Beauty is where you find it (to quote Madonna).

Dark skin is beautiful. It is no less beautiful than any other skin tone. Natural hair is beautiful. It’s every bit as beautiful as someone’s relaxed hair, wig, or weave. Being yourself is beautiful. That’s what beauty is: the confidence to DO YOU no matter what society or anyone tells you.

Fuck all of these ignorant assholes making themselves look like straight FOOLS on the goddamn internet. Get you some fucking sense, you walking stereotypes.

I think a comment on ONTD said it pretty well;

Some of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen have some of the darkest skin I’ve ever seen. It is breathtaking how under any light their skin just looks so flawless and almost like a painting, like each and every inch of their body was thought about really deeply before each stroke was taken.
