The Feds have started listing their summer internships for current students and recent grads, as well as summer positions with agencies like the Forest Service. These positions are paid, & even though many of them are temporary they can be converted (assuming you do well) to permanent work. At the very least it means health insurance, a paycheck above minimum wage, and work experience that isn’t retail or food service to put on your resume. Check out this site for more information on internships and usajobs.gov for information on other positions. Also, if you have been applying to the Feds and not getting anywhere? Chances are excellent your resume is too short and doesn’t contain enough key words for the positions you’re applying to since federal hiring hinges on getting past a computer screening that grades you on how many of the right terms are used. My federal resume is almost 10 pages long and it has helped me immensely.

I saw a petition that want the cast of Star Trek (original) to be officially recognized by some government cultural person…while a worthy endeavor, I’m almost certain that has more signatures than this. C’mon. This is even grandfathered in, this petition doesn’t need 100k signatures, it’s easier!

It’s called “Out in Wyoming: LGBT Advocacy in the Cowboy State” and gives a summary of what’s coming up in this legislative session, advice from Wyoming state legislators on advocacy, plus instructions on lobbying and communicating with your state legislators — even if you don’t live in Wyoming. (Yes, it’s a little long, but we worked really hard, it’s entertaining, and YouTube has a pause button.)

However, if you know people who live in Wyoming, live in Wyoming yourself, or live near Wyoming, definitely share this video. We have a domestic partnership bill, a marriage equality bill, and a non-discrimination bill going to their respective committees on Monday beginning at noon. We’ll also be demonstrating in front of the state house starting at 9 AM in favor of equality on Monday, January 28. If you live close enough to Cheyenne to get to the state house, DO IT!

PARDON MARISSA ALEXANDER WHO WAS JAILED FOR 20 YEARS IN FLORIDA FOR TRYING TO PROTECT HERSELF AGAINST AN ABUSIVE EX-

Marissa Alexander was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Marissa is the victim here. Her husband beat her while she was pregnant. After yet another beating, Alexander fired a warning shot which traveled through a wall and into the ceiling. That shot saved her life. She didn’t kill anyone. Prosecutor Angela Corey did not take into account that Marissa Alexander had a court injunction against her crazed husband. She had given birth 9 Days earlier and was trained to use a weapon and earned a concealed weapons permit. Whilst the Stand Your Ground Law has been successfully used by other people in the State of Florida, that law didn’t apply to Marissa Alexander although she was a victim of Domestic Abuse.

My mother is the most precious thing I have in my life. Maria Arreola, my loving mother, risked her life in (YEAR SHE LEFT MEXICO) when she left my abusive father and migrated to the U.S. seeking safety for her children and herself. 

Last night, Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE), trespassed into to my home without a warrant and apprehended my mother. My brother, who was next door at a friends house, was also handcuffed and taken by ICE. 

I can’t believe I am living this nightmare. I need your help! I cannot begin to imagine what my life would be without my mother. Right now your voice is the only thing that can help keep my family together.

Grief-stricken homeless man seeks public’s help after his dog stolen

Carl McDonald may be homeless, but his dog Scooby is his family and his life-saver in more ways than one. But now someone has stolen his 4-year-old Australian Kelpie away from him. Just before Christmas, the dog he calls “his daughter” was stolen while he slept.

Carl was sleeping on the streets of Oxford, England, on the porch of St. Gile’s Church in the city centre and when he woke to find her gone. The Australian Kelpie was last seen lying next to him. Carl said he was sure Scooby was stolen because the lead which hadn’t been attached to her collar was also gone, as well as some dog treats and £38 which had been in his hat. Now that she’s gone he said he doesn’t know what to do. 

He told the Oxford Mail, “Dogs are everything when you are homeless. They keep you going and listen to you when you have no one to talk to.” He added, “I can’t sleep without her, it’s messing me up to be honest. It feels like someone has stolen my kid. I don’t know what I might do to myself really, I can’t live without her. She was like my daughter.”

A homeless man’s beloved dog was stolenCarl has had Scooby since she was just 4-weeks-old when a friend gave her to him. He bottle-fed her as a puppy. Carl, 43 said he owes his life to Scooby after she saved him from a fire in an apartment last year. He recounts how last year she saved his life when an apartment he was staying at caught on fire. “Someone had left a candle on and the flat caught fire. She woke me up and dragged me to the door. I didn’t know where it was because of all the smoke.”

He has a friend, Mandy Aitbaha, who is helping him search for Scooby by putting up posters.

Mandy always stops to chat to Carl and say hello to Scooby while she shops. She’s noticed the effect Scooby’s theft has had on Carl. “I’m really worried about him, he’s depressed and without that dog he is suicidal. I always see them together, he loves that dog.”

She said, “When I saw him a few days ago after Scooby went missing his head was down and he was crying. I couldn’t see Scooby so I knew something was wrong. He has been dealt a rough hand of cards as it is. His words to me were that he is staring death in the face so we really have to find her.”

Volunteers for Dog Lost, a national website which tries to track down missing dogs, has been helping with the search for Scooby.

Thames Valley Police spokesman Rhianne Pope confirmed Scooby was reported missing on December 19 and had not yet been found. She said Scooby’s disappearance was being treated as a theft. 

The Australian Kelpie which is primarily brown with a white blaze across her chest and was taken from Carl on December 19, 2012 from the St. Gile’s Church at 10 Woodstock Rd. If you have any information on Scooby’s disappearance contact Dog Lost or Thames Valley Police.

the latest in the lois-gets-her-art-stolen chronicles: a chilean publisher has decided to take this artwork, drag it through photoshop hell, and use it as a cover for this book, obviously without permission or compensation of any kind. not only is it copyright infringement but making book covers this ugly should be outlawed too.

anyways, i went through this before when i found my art printed on sweaters in south korea. i talked to a few different lawyers at the time, who told me that i needed a lawyer in the actual country that the theft was taking place. sending threatening letters from the netherlands just wasn’t the way to be taken seriously or get things solved. because i never found out who was making those korean sweaters, i decided to give up fighting after they were removed from the korean web-shops - it just wasn’t worth the money i would have to invest in pursuing it.

however, this time around i actually do know who the thief is (Puerto de Escape in Chile) and i intend to go after them. however, i need someone who is familiar with chilean law and ideally could hook me up with a lawyer in chile to help me out and give advice. i could also use advice from anyone familiar with these situations and how they can be resolved. if you guys could spread the word and e-mail me at loishh@gmail.com with any information, that would help me SO much! thanks a ton for reading!!
